Workshop

These workshops are open to artists of Asian descent in Tāmaki Makaurau and Te Tai Tokerau, and are an invitation to engage more deeply with our position as tangata Tiriti in Aotearoa.

The purpose of this two-day programme is to create a supportive space for Asian arts practitioners to deepen their understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi (1840) and He Whakaputanga o te Rangatiratanga o Nu Tireni (1835), and the history of colonial violations of Te Tiriti and Māori resistance to colonialism.

It is a chance to think through and more deeply understand the rights and responsibilities that we, as tauiwi, have in Aotearoa — and how that might show up in the work we do as artists and arts administrators.

Led by Kirsty Fong (Asians Supporting Tino Rangatiratanga) and co-facilitated by Tāwhana Chadwick (Kūwaha Ltd.) as part of the Asian Artists' Fund 2025, we aim to provide a space that is also conscious and attentive to the varied relationships to colonialism within Asian communities.

This is a two-day workshop, and participants must commit to attending both days. This session is for:

  • Sat 23 Aug from 9.00am-4.30pm
  • Sun 24 Aug from 10.00am-3.00pm

To book for Option Two (Sep 20-21), please use this form.

Each workshop is for up to 35 participants.

We cover all workshop fees and catering, so it is free for you to attend. Note that you will need to cover transport, childcare, and any other costs associated with attending.
